In the UFC it had been an issue on who will be able to beat the current heavy weight champion Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar is a very dominant contender in his division. Brock stands at six feet-three inches tall and weighs 265 pounds. With this figures it is without a doubt he is a monster in the heavyweight division. The key to his domination in the cage is his size, well there are really few guys who can match his weight.
When someone fights Brock inside the cage it would not be an MMA pound for pound match but rather a MMA pound for pound and a half match. And even if someone at 265 pounds decides to fight him there would still be less chance to beat him since normally 265 pounder guys really moves slowly.
But that is not the case with Brock, he has an excellent cardio, very athletic, and has a speed of a 200 pounder guy, this proved to be a huge advantage in his part, being able to oversize the opponent without compromising his speed. Brock has an excellent wrestling background which made him take-down his opponents at will and just deliver his ground and pound.
The very danger in his ground and pound is that he is able to control his opponent in the ground while he is pounding which makes it hard for the opponent to escape his clutches. Another thing about his ground and pound is that the speed of the punches, he has lightning speed punches with knock-out power and it is proven just like how he knocked out the hall of famer Randy Couture. But a smart fighter like Frank Mir was able to see through his weakness which was his grappling. Although Brock dominated in the stand-up and striking, the moment that Frank Mir got hold of him, it was over. Frank Mir delivered a knee-bar on Lesnar which made him tap out.
Now another opponent is challenging Brock for the championship belt, and it is no other than the biggest fist in the UFC, Shane Carwin. Shane Carwin has a knock-out power behind those huge fists and to add to that he is very accurate with his strikes. In terms of stability, Shane has a very strong jaw which allows him to withstand strikes from powerful strikers. Now, Shane Carwin has challenged Brock for a shot at the title and if Brock accepts the challenge, surely it would be a must watch event as two of the biggest fists in the UFC go toe to toe for the championship belt. Whoever wins the bout would surely leave the other either bloodied up or knocked -out cold as both of this fighters are determined to win and be the champion of their division.
To conclude, some may hate Brock but the truth is that Lesnar has been doing great past few years. Some think he should go back to WWE where he belongs, but I say otherwise. WWE is fake and it was not something that a professional like him should have joined at first place. There is a lot of money in WWE but the fun factor is gone.
The biggest fight of the night at UFC 109 will be the fight between Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen.
When comparing the statistics of Marquardt and Sonnen one would think that the betting lines would be closer than they currently are, however, the fact that Marquardt is a better grappler may have been the determining factor.
Sonnen is a good Greco-Roman wrester, who has wins over former WEC champion Paulo Filho, former Strikeforce champion Renato Sobral, former IFL champion Dan Miller, Jason Miller and Yushin Okami. Even though Sonnen does not have the grappling game he is a better wrestler than Marquardt. He was a two time National Champion, NCAA All-American and he was a US Olympic team alternate. Even though Sonnen has the wrestling advantage in this fight Marquardt’s dominance on the ground will nullify his game. Marquardt is a very good ground fighter on his back and if Sonnen was to use his wrestling in an attempt to take Marquardt, it will be his undoing. However, Marquardt, a three-time Middleweight King of Pancrase Champion, is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Murgel and has 15 out of his 29 wins by submission and his grappling will nullify Sonnen’s wreslting and keep this fight standing which something Sonnen does not want.
Despite his credentitals Sonnen will resort to fighting Marquardt in a striking battle. Unfortunately for Sonnen, Marquardt is also a better striker and will use his long legs to his advantage. Though Sonnen has decent striking skills he is more of a pressure fighter than anything-he likes to push the pace and use his size and strength to bully his opponents. The difference with his next fight is that he will not be able to intimidate Marquardt. Marquardt has the striking advantage and grappling advantage and it is only a matter of time before Marquardt is able to KO Sonnen.
Sonnen has a well-rounded skill set and he is good at a lot of things, but not great at anything. He is a pressure fighter and is able to win fights because of his tenacity-he has four decision victories in his last five outings. If Sonnen is to stand a chance in this fight he will need to outwork Marquardt as he does not have the grappling nor striking power to beat Marquardt outright.
Sonnen will try to keep this fight standing as his last few losses in MMA have come by submission to high level grapplers. When Sonnen faced such opponents in the past, it took away from his wrestling game and he was forced to resort to striking. However, Marquardt is a very effective striker against whom Sonnen cannot defend.
This fight will most likely go to a decision which is the perfect prop bet to make. The sports betting lines are pretty steep at -310 but Marquardt has the advantage in almost all areas and the areas in which he does not dominate will be nullified by his dominate grappling.
Look for Marquardt to Win this Fight with a 3 Round Unanimous Decision

Big Lightweight vs Small Lightweight: Frank Edgar d. Sean Sherk w/ short arms via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Why does Sherk think he is a boxer? He is built like a wrestler, his body is basically the antithesis of a boxer’s. The guy is not gonna knock anyone out, period. Has he watched too many Rocky movies or something?! Anyways, Sherk should not be on another main card until he changes things up. I feel like the UFC put pressure on Sherk’s camp to make him strike more, but it just doesn’t work and his fights are still boring. Anyhoo, this was an easy win for Franky, but unless he’s fighting KenFlo or a recovered Din Thomas, I’m really not interested anymore.
Not Pointless Middleweight Bout: Chael Sonnen d. Dan Miller via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
This one was a bit of a snoozer and I actually like Chael Sonnen as any fighter who can put up with BodogFIGHT and the IFL and still get some time in the UFC deserves my props and I also think Dan Miller has a great future in the sport; he’s generally well-rounded and has exceptional submission skills that seem to be natural for him.
Pointless Middleweight Bout: Drew McFedries d. “Professor X” Xavier Foupa-Pokam via TKO (strikes) at 0:37 of round 1.
First knockout of the night and it was worth it as it was one hell of a knockout and X folded like a cheap chair; X should’ve kept his hands up, especially when he was back against the cage.
Sidenote: Is Tyson rich again? How can he afford the seats? His movie paycheck looked like it was spent on his “date”.
Welterweight GRUDGE Match: Matt Hughes w/ annoying entrance music d. Matt Serra w/ Rocky theme via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Well that was anticlimactic. I was expecting more after all that trash talking. This match should have happened a year ago and had a boring finish to boot as they gave the win to the guy who wanted the decision rather than to finish it. Serra had intent to end the fight, Hughes just wanted some points. Disappointing decision. Plus the third round should have at least been a split; Serra had a takedown in the 3rd as well and while Hughes did some damage on the ground, Serra did plenty to counter that.
Light Heavyweight Championship bout: “Put him in a bodybag Johnny yeah!” Lyoto Machida w/ Linkin Park music d. Rashad Evans via KO (punch) at 3:57 of round 2 to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
HOLY CRAP MACHIDA STOPPED A FIGHT. Machida fight good. Me love him long time. This went from “OMG BORINGEST FIGHT EVAR” to “HE BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM” pretty quick. Evans didn’t even throw a single punch as Mach’s punches are so accurate that every single one of those punches in the ko hit Evans flush on the chin. Also Evans looked like his body suddenly didn’t agree with gravity or something right in the middle of the knockout as his leg looked like it was about to snap off as he was going down. Machida doesn’t look quick until he strikes, then all of a sudden out of nowhere it’s like where the hell did that come from? I guess Karate is officially back. Anyways, Evans did the best anyone could have done. The UFC is indeed screwed now, as no one will beat this guy. That entire match was a damn promotional video for karate. A new era has dawned in MMA history my friends; screw Muai Thai and BJJ, I’m signing up for Shotokan Karate tomorrow. This Ryu guy is going to bring in so many new fans/bandwagoners.
At times, the long-awaited UFC 114 grudge match between former light heavyweight champions “Suga” Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson looked like the calm after the storm of trash talk and bad blood. But an action-packed third round and a solidly executed gameplan from Evans will remain in the minds of fight fans for a while as he pounded out a three round unanimous decision win over his rival Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Scores were 30-27 twice and 29-28 for Evans, who called the victory “a huge relief.”
“He’s tough,” said Jackson, who was coming off a layoff of over a year since his last bout at UFC 96 in March of 2009. “He’s faster than I anticipated. He was the man today.”
Jackson, whose rivalry with Evans began after that UFC 96 fight and escalated when the two were coaches on the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, raced across the Octagon at the bell to get in Evans’ face, but it was Evans who got the first shot in, a lightning fast right hand that rocked Jackson and sent him sprawling into the cage. Evans locked his foe up there, but Jackson was able to remain upright and avoid the takedown, even scoring briefly with a knee before referee Herb Dean broke the stalemate with 2:50 left. With 2:15 remaining, Evans shot off a quick combination and followed up with a takedown. After taking some ground strikes, Jackson made it back to his feet but Evans wouldn’t release his grip on his opponent against the fence. Dean again broke the stalemate, this time with 28 seconds left, and it was Jackson ending the round strong by stuffing a takedown and scoring with a quick flurry before the bell. Free online streaming is the way forward. Yes I know there are sites that promise free online streaming only to give you cloudy videos and terrible resources but here I’m going to tell you about the “good guy” sites. Reliable sites offer links which connect to the official UFC 109 sites. The videos are directly streamed to your computer. Did you know that even sites offer High Definition (HD) Streaming? Now you know, yes there are sites which offer HD streaming, it would be just like watching the action unfold on your TV.

Its my guess that no true UFC 109 fanatic wants to miss out on the great action so do what you can to get a piece of the action and I think I have just given you on one idea to take on.
Kimbo Slice should not be in the UFC plain and simple. He is in the UFC here because he gets pay per view buys. At UFC 113 he will be fighting fellow reality show fighter and former NFL player Matt Mitrione who played for the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings. Mitrione trains with Duke Roufuswho is considered to be one of the top trainers of Muay Thai trainers in the world. Kimbo is now 36 and has a lot to learn in mixed martial arts. Aside from power in his strikes he has nothing else. He cannot grapple, wrestle or kick. We have all seen the Kimbo on Youtube, however, he is mainly fighting people who are not trained MMA fighters and the fights on Youtube are only backyard boxing matches. Though Ferguson may train at American Top Team it is unlikely he will pick up enough to fight Mitrione who has been practicing kicks and that is something that will him this fight. Mitrione’s training with a world class kickboxer could mean trouble for Kimbo. Though he has a powerful upper body, Kimbo has “chicken legs” and will be unable to check Mitrione’s kicks as Duke Roufus is teaching Mitrione the crucial lower leg kick. As Mitrione is also a former NFL player he has incredible strength in the clinch and up against the octagon. Most likely Mitrione will throw an over hand right which will put down Ferguson. As the taller, heavier and younger fighter with the longer he will pick apart Kimbo with leg kicks and then finish him off with punches that will KO the wannabe fighter. I would have thought the betting lines on both fighters would have been relatively close at around -110 for both fighters; however, Kimbo has been marketed and is the better known name so he gets favorable UFC betting lines. Personally, I would bet a lot on Mitrione because of his kickboxing training and better overall skill set. To win this fight all Mitrione needs to do is survive the first round as Kimbo Slice has no cardio. After the second round is where he will start getting picked off. Bet a lot onMitrione to KO Kimbo
Did you know that a ninja student won a UFC championship? It’s true.
It was in UFC #3: “The American Dream”, and his name was Steve Jennum. In fact, Jennum was the only person, other than Royce Gracie, to win a UFC championship at that time.
So, how did a Ninja come out on top against all of those highly trained and experienced fighters? This article discusses the major points that contributed to his win. Use this, not as a guide to see how he won, but as a way to understand the difference between how most people think of winning, and how a practitioner of the art of ninjutsu thinks about it.
First, Steve Jennum was an alternate – not one of the primary fighters.
What that means is that he didn’t have to go up against other fighters before reaching the final round against powerhouse fighter, Harold Howard. This allowed him to be fresh, and ready on all levels.
But, don’t let that sway you to believe that Jennum only won because Howard was tired and he was not.
In the opening foray of the round, Howard, although he had just won his own fight just prior to facing Jennum, was still powered up and ready to go. This was evident when he unloaded a punch that should have blown the Ninja across the octagon!
But, what happened next, not only changed the fight, but startled Howard so much that I can still see his reaction today.
When Howard slammed Jennum with the same powerhouse punch that has allowed him to win countless fights before this, Steve used a basic move in the Ninja’s arsenal that Howard had never seen. When the punch hit Jennum squarely in the head, his body was already in motion – pulling back into the Ninja’s ichimonji no kamae.
This strategic shifting of the body allowed Jennum to receive the punch with little to no damage. And, when Howard paused, confused with the result of what should have been a knockout – Jennum counter attacked and took the fight to Howard. In the world of ninpo-taijutsu, “the ninja’s body-art,” this tactic utilized the ninja’s sui no kata ‘water-mode’ of strategic defensiveness.
Pulling back and then crashing back in with full body power strikes – like the movement of the ocean as it pulls away from the shore only to roll over itself, gathering power, and crashing back in against the rocks – Jennum became the champion of UFC #3. Instead of relying on tricky moves that required strength, speed, or conventional power…
A ninja won UFC #3 with a technique taught to basic students in the art of ninjutsu!
UFC Handicapping this fight there is no question who is the better fighter. Quinton Jackson only had his powerful strikes. Rashad Evans knows he cannot strike with Jackson and will need to rely on speed and quick jabs to set up the takedowns.
Rampage lacks is kick defense and does little to check kicks or work on his kicking game. It is unlikely that Rampage has been working on improving his his inability to check kicks which cost him the fight against Forrest Griffin and almost his fight against Jardine.
Evans hails from one of the best mixed martial arts camps in the world in Jackson’s Fighting Submission. Jackson on the other hand does not have anyone overlooking the “small” details in his training. He currently works out of the Wolfslair MMA Academy with Michael Bisping, Cheick Kongo and Paul Kelly. Most fighters at this club are average fighters at best.
There is no one to push Jackson at this club as their jujitsu and a wrestling coach is non-existent. Unlike Evans there will be no game plan to help Jackson come up with a game plan.
If you look at Rampage’s record he tends to have trouble with multi skilled fighters. Jackson has always relied upon his power striking to win matches and when this fails he has no other answer.
Evans is too smart a fighter to fall into a striking battle with Rampage. For Jackson, the desire to fight competitively is gone as he is more focused on his movie career.
Jackson is lacking in proper training, wrestling and grappling skills as well as a real desire to continue competing at this level.
